April Showers

I have been so stinkin' productive today that you'd think that I was the pregnant one - with full on, hormone driven, eleventh hour nesting urges...

Seriously - check out my day:

Before 11 am I'd: gotten up, fed Sam, fed myself, showered, did our finances, picked up a frame at Michaels for the baby room, picked out a color and then purchased the paint for the baby's room, went to the bank, went grocery shopping, chatted online with my friend, cleaned the kitchen, paid more bills, colored fake tatoos on Sam, read 2 books to Sam, and placed an order for more AWESOME books from Jessica's site!

Then over lunch Christine and I brainstormed about April Sales for CTMH. I needed something easy but SPECTACULAR, since I probably won't be bringing in much buisness once our baby boy arrives. So.... I decided on an "April Showers" event. I want to "shower" my customer with a great special - and with my mind so wrapped up in our adoption, of course it had to focus on BABIES!!!

I whipped up these cute little albums to sell as kits for my customers! Aren't they adorable?! I think they'll make great baby shower gifts, or grandma or momma brag books. I'm going to sell the kits for $12, or $6 with a $50 order, or FREE with a $100 order! What do you think? If you look closely, you'll see a sneak peek at the July SOTM - "It's a Jungle". I think it's my favorite stamp set that CTMH has ever done!

Alrighty... off to write my April newsletter! If you don't get it yet, there's a sign up box in the upper left side of my blog!

Friday Photo Challenge - Snow Pictures

Snow... yes, I'd say that is a perfect topic for Jenn's photo challenge this week (errr - i mean last week). We braved the winter white stuff ALL weekend! We left for Spokane on Friday night, stayed for a quick visit (see below), and came home today.

Even though it's spring, mother nature obviously hasn't gotten the memo. The snow was so bad Friday night that we only made it about 100 miles in 4 hours. We had to hole up in a hotel in Leavenworth until morning because it was too bad to drive in. The picture above was taken looking out our hotel window. As we drove home today, we braved a near white out for 50 miles before FINALLY hitting clear roads for the rest of the drive home. We're praying that it clears up (for good) before we have to go back.

The reason we went to Spokane is that with our son's due date looming, we really wanted to meet our birth momma in person. We had only spoken through a mutual friend, and we were hoping to connect with her face to face. We thought this may remove some of the fears (on all sides) and help us all feel more comfortable when the big day arrives.

I'm so glad we did. Our birth mom is amazing. She's smart, funny, and beautiful. She is kind and hardworking. And she loves her son. I know that she loves him because this choice is the most difficult thing that I think she's ever gone through. But she loves him enough to know that she needs help. We are so thankful that God has put us in her life, and that she has agreed to place her son with us! We feel blessed beyond measure.

So, even with snow, snow, and more snow, we were very glad we made the trip. Now we're just waiting by the phone for that call that will have us heading back to pick up our son!

The Shove

Every Thursday evening I have a standing "Girls Scrap Night" with two of my best friends. Since there are 3 tables in my basement scraproom (also lovingly referred to as the "cave"), we each get our own space to work at.

I really try my hardest to have everything neatly put away before they arrive, but occassionally I have to use the "Shove" method. This happens when I've been especially creative the previous days, but not incredibly tidy. About 5 minutes before they arrive, I quickly shove everything from the other 2 tables onto my table. Then as they are busy crafting, I spend the rest of the night putting my junk away. =) Not an efficient use of my time... I know.

I was explaining this Christine last night, but she didn't believe me - AND she double dog dared me to take a picture. So I told her I'd do her one better and not just take pictures, but post them here. It wasn't a particularly BAD shove night last night. I was able to get everything cleaned up in just 20 minutes. So, you'll have to just imagine the stacks about 70% taller, and you'll get the idea of what it typically looks like.

2 nice clean tables for my friends:

My Table:
See that tiny patch of brown? That's where I was creating a card the night before! I guess I just thrive in chaos. =)

Finished!

You may have noticed I'd taken a break from paper crafts for a bit. I just haven't had time to get down to my cave with all the stuff we've been doing to get ready for our son. But, I have had time to knit! The great thing about knitting is that you can take it ANYWHERE! I love that!

The pink poncho I had started originally for Sam just didn't work out. The sizing was all wrong, and the yarn was too thin to work well for a poncho. So I purchased different yarn, and designed my own pattern using one of Sam's older ponchos as a guide. I'm so pleased with how it turned out!

All you paper crafters - don't fret. I'll be down in the scrap cave tonight with a few friends. We have a standing Thursday Girls Night. I'm so excited!

Beerafella and birthday wishes

My step-dad's birthday is on Saturday, but we celebrated with him over Easter because we didn't know where we'd be this weekend with the adoption. We had a YUMMY chicken fajita dinner and an amazing chocolate cake that mom whipped up from scratch.

This was the card I made for Rick. I finally got to use one of my "fellas" from http://www.stampingbella.com/. It's beerafella - doesn't he look just like Dave?! The sentiment is from a frog themed stamp set from SU! but it just seemed appropriate. I also used the SU! watercolor crayons to color him in. Everything else is CTMH (colors are Moonstruck, Topiary, Heavenly Blue, and Goldrush - the same colors as my Humble Artist swap card below).

HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY RICK!!! We love you!

Happy Easter!

Sam has officially had ENOUGH of pictures being taken of her. After 3 years of mommy shoving a camera in her face, she's discovered that if she makes silly faces like this (or just turns her back on me) I'll eventually get frustrated and put the camera away.

.....sigh

I've even had to resort to bribing her to smile and take a cute pictures. I honestly don't know how Karen Russell does it. The photos of her 4 children are always BEAUTIFUL!!!

Thankfully the most important part of yesterday's celebrations focused on our wonderful Savior's resurrection! HE IS RISEN INDEED!

I hope your day was blessed.

Practice Makes Perfect

Well... I'm getting better! I hope you enjoy the latest in my "Classy Crafts" Video Tutorial series. These are really fun to put together. My goal is to get one video a week posted, but with our little guy coming we'll see how that goes.

Enjoy!

Humble Artist Swap and CHALLENGE

Supplies (All CTMH except flos and stickles): Cardstock - Moonstruck, Sweetleaf, Goldrush, White Daisy. Inks: Moonstruck, Crystal Blue, Goldrush, Autumn Terracotta, Honey, Topiary, Sweetleaf. Stamps: Happy Birthday, Little Boy. Embellishments: silver brads, silver bigger brads, white embroidery floss, Lime Green stickles, 3d foam.

This card was for my Humble Artist Swap. It's not due for about 3 weeks, but who knows if I'll have time to do this then. I've wanted this stamp set since it was debuted almost 2 years ago. I finally had a reason to buy it! =)

I'm pleased with how the card came out. Our requirements were:
1) standard A2 size, 4.25x5.5
2) must use some form of paper embossing - but CAN'T be cuttlebug,
3) had to be "spring like" colors but winter cozy pallet counts (I used 2 winter cosy colors - not exactly springy, but close enough - right?!)
4) had to have 4 layers of paper on at least one part.
5) had to have some "bling"
6) had to include some form of embellishment

Now for the challenge - should you choose to accept it. You have 1 week (due: Friday, March 28 at noon - pacific time!) to create a card following the same "rules" posted above. Post your card online and leave a link to it in the comments section of this post. Winner will get a set of all 3 card class cards from my March classes!

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Big News!!

I've been holding out on sharing something HUGE for the past week... (dropping hints every now and then), but I just can't contain it any longer!

Now before you starting getting big ideas - I'm NOT pregnant! :) But we are getting a new baby!

God is so good! He has answered our prayers for another child in the most miraculous way imaginable. Only He could have orchestrated the incredible circumstances that are leading to us adopting a beautiful newborn baby boy - and only He will be the one to bring this good work to completion.

Dave and I have been struggling with infertility for over 2 1/2 years. In that time we prayed that God would show us His timing, and His will in regards to having a second child. We began discussing adoption last fall - even attending an information meeting at a local Adoption Agency. We knew adoption was something we wanted to do, we just weren't sure about the timing. So we kept praying...

Fast forward to several weeks ago. We were at an impass due to some infertility issues. We had to decide whether to go the fertility treatment route or adoption. It was time to make a decision. So we prayed and diligently sought the Lord. On Monday night (March 10) I cried out to God asking Him to make it abundantly clear which direction we should take, and I even prayed that if adoption was His will, could he "just put a baby in our laps"?

The NEXT day, Tuesday morning, I got a phone call saying that a sweet, selfless momma needed a home for her soon-to-be-born son. We had gotten our answer from the Lord. Dave and I immediately offered to become his adoptive parents. We prayed all week, and on Monday we heard that this momma has agreed to place her son in our home after his birth! PRAISE THE LORD!

So now we are trying to get a million things in place so that this adoption can go through as quickly as possible. Our momma is due in about a week, so we don't have much time, but "we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose" (Rom 8:28). And we know and BELIEVE that when we pray, God answers. We are so thankful!

Here are some Thank You notes I made last night for all those helping us so much with the adoption process. I got to use my cuttlebug! YAY! (It had been a while)

Close up on the Cuttlebug textures. I used swiss dots, diamonds, bubble texture (looks like lizzard skin) and the distressed stripes. (All supplies CTMH - email me if you want a list).

Tag Double-Time

So I've been tagged, not once but twice. Guess I can't ignore it now, huh? ;) It actually works out, because although I was creative last night, I did not get a chance to photograph anything yet. Alrighty, here we go...

Nicole and Leslie tagged me to give 7 random facts about myself.
The rules of the game:

• Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
• Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog, we all want to know them.
• Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs. How about just one - CHRISTINE! LOL
• Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Let us commence with the random facts...

1. When I was pregnant with Sam the only thing I could eat for breakfast that wouldn't make me sick was Crispix cereal.

2. I despise 3/4 length sleeves. They seem like "high waters" for arms. Whenever I wear them I subconsciously try to push the sleeves up higher or pull them down to my wrists. UGH! And they seem to be all that is sold in stores these days.

3. If I don't have to go anywhere, I like to hang out in my jammies all day. Sometimes I'll even shower and then put my jammies back on.

4. I can make Top Ramen taste gourmet - REALLY!

(wow - this is hard! 7 random things?!?)

5. I may be the only person on the planet who doesn't like the Eagles' music.

6. I keep my blog open all day so I can refresh the screen and see how many people have visited. (Is that lame or what?)

7. If I had known my hubby would go back to school, and get such DARN GOOD grades, I think I would have tried much harder for a 4.0 in every class. It's hard to "compete" for the best grades after the fact. ;) - Great job Dave! I'm so proud of you. (He just made the presidential honor roll.)

BBQ Invites

My MOPS group is having an auction in a few weeks, and each table has to bring items for a specific themed basket. We have the BBQ basket. I volunteered to make BBQ invites, along with a few other items. These are what I came up with. Kinda cute, huh?

Supplies (ALL CTMH): Giddy Up patterned paper (retired), Grill It Up stamps, It's a Party stamps, Bamboo stamp pad, Black Archival stamp pad, Holiday Red Marker, Clover Meadow Marker, Hollyhock Marker, Chocolate Marker, Sunflower Marker, Black distressing ink.

My FIRST Video Tutorial

Here's my first ever video tutorial! I hope you like it. I'm going to attempt to do at least one of these a week, so be sure to check back. Keep in mind that this was my FIRST attempt at something like this, so they can only get better - right? ;)

This is the card I'm teaching:

Supplies:
1 Simple Snapshot 9x9 Scrapbook page (I used Silhouette)
- Paper Trimmer
- Stamp pads to match your project (I used Black)
- Paper Piercer
- Double Scrubber and Spritz
- Precut card base, or an 8.5x11 cardstock sheet cut down to make 2 card bases.
- Coordinating stamps (I used Gracious Greetings and Soulmates)
- Coordinating embellishments (I used just blooms paper flowers and a bigger brad from the Winter Classic collection)
- Adhesive

I've learned a few things for next time:
- put our chirpy bird in the other room
- better utilize the zoom for "extreme closeups" (everyone wants to see the details, right?)
- put something in Dave's mouth before filming so he is unable to try to crack me up mid-sentence.
- talk a little louder.

Here are a few more cards made using other Simple Snapshot pages:

Supplies for above cards are ALL CTMH except for the Jammiebella stamp, and the "Happy Birdie" stamp - both from www.stampingbella.com.

Crying over Spilled Milk

I feel like my blog has been a bit neglected of late. My goal was to post artwork every day... but that means I have to be creating something everday. After teaching 3 classes last week, I was just too worn out. But, there will be more artwork coming soon - I PROMISE! In fact, be sure to check back tomorrow for my first ever Video Card Tutorial! You're gonna love it.

Meanwhile - back at the ranch - we found an icky, gross, disgusting interesting little surprise in Sam's bed last night. Apparently she had taken a sippy cup of milk into her room sometime during the day and left it on her bed. While she was playing it managed to not only find its way under her covers, but it also got sat/jumped/danced on so that it burst open happened to start leaking. There was no way her foam mattress would ever survive this, so we went shopping for a new one today. We figured getting her a real mattress would also save us thousands of dollars in chiropractic bills in the future anyway.

Sam was so excited to get her new bed! I was hoping it would mean a nap today... it didn't (sigh). She's outgrown them. (double sigh). I still make her do a quiet time, but it just isn't the same. ;)

We now have a new rule: no food or drinks anywhere except the kitchen and dining room. We don't want to find any more surprises.

Jenn's Friday Photo Challenge: Funny Picture

I guess we don't have too many funny pictures... I had to search far and wide for this one, and I'd say this is more "goofy" than funny. This is Dave and me last year while on our trip to Hawaii.

Thanks for the challenge Jenn!

Quickies

Just wanted to show off some quick and simple cards featuring my new Bellas! These cards aren't extravagant - I wanted to use up scrap papers.

"Grumpabella"

"Jammiebella"

"Preggobella"

"Knitabella"
I couldn't even tell you what brand the papers are, as they were from my scrap stack. The bellas all came from http://www.stampingbella.com/ along with the sentiments. Extra cardstock and Sparkles are CTMH.

A Little Something...

I realized I haven't posted much artwork in the past few days. We've been pretty busy with some interesting things, but I did get a chance to play today. Here's a little something I'm working on...

The album is a BoBunny 6x6 Chipboard Album (thank you Tresa for the extras from the retreat). I used my Cricut (Opposites Attract and Basic Shapes) and a Dymo label maker, along with some Wholy Cow rubons and the Father's Day line of papers from Bohemia.

I may post more pages at a later date, but this album is pretty personal. ;)

The only other news I have is that I think we found a pre-school for Sammie! She loved it and is excited to go back already. Too bad she's going to have to wait until September! I'm thinking we'll do swimming lessons or ballet in the mean time.

Isaac John

Dave, Sammie and I got to meet Isaac John today. He is absolutely adorable and we were overjoyed for Josh and Amy. Sammie even said she'd love to have a baby brother like that - and she's been staunchly in the sister camp for a long time now.

Invisible Mom

A friend emailed this to me today. It was such a blessing to read and a great reminder after a day like yesterday. BTW - Sam has been an absolute angel today. Praise the Lord for small mercies...

"Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 'The LORD is my portion,' says my soul, 'Therefore I hope in Him!' The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD."

Lamentations 3:22-26

Invisible Mom

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and asks to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, "Can't you see I'm on the phone?" Obviously not; no one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible. The invisible Mom.

Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this? Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, "What time is it?" I'm a satellite guide to answer, "What number is the Disney Channel?" I'm a car to order, "Right around 5:30, please."I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated summa cum laude - but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going, she's going, she's gone!

One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England. Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself as I looked down at my out-of-style dress; it was the only thing I could find that was clean. My unwashed hair was pulled up in a hair clip and I was afraid I could actually smell peanut butter in it. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, "I brought you this." It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe.

I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: "To Charlotte, with
admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees."In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names. These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.

A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, "Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it." And the workman replied, "Because God sees."I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, "I see you, Charlotte. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become."

At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride. I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree. When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, "My Mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table." That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And
then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, "You're gonna love it there."

As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.

new baby blessings

Our friends Josh and Amy just had a baby boy on Sunday. I was going to wait to post these until we got to see him (along with a picture of him), but I just can't wait any longer! We'll see them tomorrow and will hopefully have a picture then.

In the meantime, here is the card I made them...

Supplies: Heavenly Blue CS, Twilight Textured CS, Goldrush ink, brad (CTMH); Always stamps, felt flower (SU); Happy Birdie stamp (Stampinbellas); 3d foam tape (Scotch); 2" circle punch (marvy), Swiss Dots Folder (cuttlebug).

And this is the teddy bear I knit them! Isn't he just the CUTEST thing ever? I was very pleased with how he turned out. Not bad for a first try!

Ever have one of THOSE days?

I think I have a case of the Mondays. Today was incredibly difficult, and Sam was a big part of that. I even called and made an appointment to go look at pre-schools - which is actually quite humorous because just last week I was telling my friend that I didn't think pre-school was something we wanted to do.

I won't go into details about my morning, but it was after noon before I got a shower. While I was getting dressed I heard Sammie giggling in her room. She's not much a giggler, so I was immediately suspicious. When I peeked in, I saw Sam under her bouncey horse with a marker in hand. She had colored all over the horse, her coat, and the table. I guess I can be thankful that she was using her washable markers instead of the permanent ones. I made sure to take pictures, even though I was pretty angry. Then I took away all her markers - and that's when she got very sad.

I know this isn't much of a big deal in some houses, but for our house it is. Sam is not a destructive child, and as of about 2 months ago she wasn't typically a sassy or disobedient child either. My friends tell me that the real attitude begins with the terrible THREES not the 2s as is the commonly said. I'm inclined to believe them.

I think someday I can laugh at this... but for now I'm not ready yet.

"But I want my markers momma!"

Note: Our evening is going much better. Sam just came to me and told me she loves me. They sure know the right thing to say sometimes. ;) And I'm almost ready to laugh about the marker incident.

Happy Birthday Sara!

Sara and I at her birthday bash on Saturday...

Sara's birthday card from us...

Supplies: random paper scraps, Superbella stamps, Super sentiment, CTMH Pansy Purple CS, CTMH sparkles, SU watercolor crayons, lime green stickles.

Sara is the person I've been friends with the longest - since the first day of Kindergarten! We rode the same bus back then, and even when we weren't sitting in the back of the bus learning dirty words from the high schoolers, we found ways to be mischievious. I taught Sara how to make red Rudolph reigndeer noses with bubble gum. She told me all about her favorite book How to Eat Fried Worms. We liked to play MASHIO (mansion, apartment, shack, house, igloo, outhouse for those who haven't reveiwed gradeschool car games recently).

Our friendship continued all through elementary school, junior high and high school. She became my chauffeur in 11th grade (since I didn't have much access to a car) and our adventures continued. She tells me I often suggested she drive faster - but I don't have any recollection of that (wink, wink). I do recall a conversation we had about "driving by braille" - that's how blind people drive you know.

We stayed friends through college (both attending the UW) - even though I got married and lived off campus and she was a sorority girl. She threw me a baby shower, and was one of first people to hold my newborn daughter in the hospital.

If you can't tell, Sara is one special gal. I hope we are always friends and I hope that this is her best year ever! Happy Birthday Sara!!!

I also picked up one more great goodie with the last little bit of my Christmas gift certificate to our local scrapbook store: I've been working with the lessons in the book, and they are so cool! I can't wait to hone my skills, and someday show off my work here. Perhaps I'll even redesign this site by myself!!! Wahoo! It beats paying $65 or more for a pre-designed layout.
