Dirt and Worms

I've lately been trying to do more fun projects with Sammie.  Though she hasn't shown any signs of jealousy with her baby sister, I can imagine it is difficult to adjust to not being an only child anymore.  So Dave and I have both tried to make an effort to do special things with Sam.

November 30th was once again Sam's snack day at preschool.  The last time we brought snack, we made silly smiling faces with apples, peanut butter and marshmallows.  We got the idea out of a magazine, and it was right around Halloween, so it was a huge hit with the kids.  (Here's a little peek at how they turned out...)

Well after the last snack we couldn't get away with just cheese sticks and fruit.  No way!  That's when I remembered a childhood favorite of mine - dirt and worms!  Of course after I described it to Sammie she was completely on board.

Here are our dirt and worms ingredients.  Normally I'm not a proponent of sugary snacks for the preschool class, but these were my one exception.  (And I did my best to make them slightly healthier with low fat Oreos, and fat free/sugar free pudding).

First we mixed green food coloring into the coconut to make it look like grass.  Then we mixed up the pudding, and crushed the oreos.  I had Sammie hold two gummy worms in place while I poured in the "dirt" (layers of pudding crushed oreos) into clear cups.  Then we topped the cups with coconut "grass" and let the worms flop over the edge of the cups.

Sammie said all the kids in her class loved them - and even the teachers ate snack that day! She even said she wanted them again for her birthday party.  (LOL - along with pumpkin pie, doughnuts, cupcakes, peanut brittle, and m&ms.  I told her she would only get to pick one dessert!)

Now to just think up what we'll bring for snack in January.  How do we top dirt and worms?!?!  Is it even possible?

I'm a fellow CTMH sister... LOVE your Blog. I've been following it for a while. You really are a creative inspiration for me.

I've made this recipe several times. Especially when I have a house full of nieces and nephews! They LOVE them!

Enjoy!

Fabulous! You are so smart to give Sammie some special time with you and she's sure to remember this with a smile.

A couple of years ago we did snowmen with peanut butter cookies dipped in white chocolate and decorated to look like snowmen...just a thought. Here's the link to the post. http://tomshack.blogspot.com/2007/12/snowman-cookies.html

I know you'll come up with something fabulous!

My Boys and I used to enjoy making ice cream cone cupcakes. Easy to do, fun to decorate and the teachers loved them because they are virtually mess free.

MERRY CHRISTMAS NONA!
