Our new house

Things are really moving around here - no pun intended!  The inspection on our house went well, and all the financing for the new owners seems to be in order.  We are looking to close on April 2nd, so that means we need to be OUT by April 4th.  CRAAAAZY.

I've been going through moments of sadness when I think about leaving.  I moved around a lot as a kid, so I'm not usually emotional about moving.  It just seemed to be part of life.  This time it feels different.  This was our first house as a married couple - our first really BIG purchase together.  I was pregnant with Sammie in this house, and have decorated her room twice!  She took her first steps down our long hallway (while I was teaching a card class no less).  My CTMH business has been built in this house.  We've experienced the lows of failed adoptions and the highs of welcoming Ruby into our home.  I've redone her room THREE times in the seven and a half years we've lived here.  There are so many memories contained within these walls, and it will be difficult to say goodbye.

But then, I start thinking about our NEW house.  Yes!  We put an offer on a new construction home a few miles away.  We look to move in around April 30th or possibly sooner if it is finished early.   Yesterday we got to go pick out carpet, tile, hardwoods, etc and it was so fun imagining what our new home would look like inside!  It is so much BIGGER than what we have now.  My classroom space will be more than double the size.  Dave will have a whole garage bay just for his beer making!  We'll have 4 bedrooms upstairs and one down (for the office), and we'll be just 2 minutes from Sammie's school.  We're currently 20 min away, so my "commute" is dramatically cut down, for which I'm so grateful.

So while it is sad to leave the old, we are definitely looking forward to the new.  :)  I'll try to keep you all posted as we go along.  Thankfully, Dave's parents have graciously allowed us to live with them in the interim, so we won't be homeless for a month!  :)  Now I get the joyful task of trying to figure out what to do with all our stuff!

Congratulations!!! Your new home is beautiful. I remember when we moved to our second home, I had many of the same feelings that you are experiencing. A few years ago, our old house was on the market and they had an open house. We went in and were so happy to see that my son and daughters rooms had the same wallpaper and shelves up that we had left behind. It brough back wonderful memories.

Wow, congratulations!! How exciting for your family. Our house was also a new construction home and about 2 1/2 times the size of our first house, so very similar to you. I was also sad to leave our first house as we got married and had both of our boys there, so lots of good memories. But the new home will be so great and you'll get to fill it with all kinds of new memories. Congratulations again! Can't wait to see more photos.

Congrats Nona..... it's a thrill to have all the extra space. We went from a 1400 sq ft townhouse to a 3600 sq ft HOUSE last year and it is SO NICE to have room for everyone! ENJOY the process! Your new house looks LOVELY

Oh and we took the wall with us that had all the boys heights marked on it from age 1 1/2 on up! I am going to put it in my workshop! LOL
